Valentine’s Day Alert! The New Height Of Moral Policing In Bangalore This Time

The month of Love was expected to bring happiness amongst one and all. It was thought that love would brew and some of the love stories may even bloom into something close to a happily ever after. There was a time when School love birds would be strong enough to bear the tides of time and stand strong against all odds. But in the current age of technology and Tinder, the stories of true love seem to have taken a setback.

Valentine’s Day is all about the sweet exchanges of the tokens of love. The huge hype around this day of love starts from the rose day and carries on for a week during the span of which people in love express their feelings for their special someone in myriad ways. As the world is progressing, the kids were bound to catch up to this tradition, and they caught up so well that celebration of Valentine’s day in school amongst students has created more hue and cry than long lasting love stories.

With the immense hype over the Valentine’s Day throughout media, is it really going to help by imposing rules?

Bunking school and visiting malls and watching movies with the respective Valentines seems to be a rise these days. There have been incidences of massive fights between teenagers about love affairs. Very recently, an ugly fight saw the death of one of the lovers who was stabbed by another guy, all because they both loved the same girl. In order to curb these showdowns, The Karnataka Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools (KAMS) has decided to put their foot down and allow no exchange of gifts or anything to make the occasion of Valentine’s Day special.

This is a step which they think will stop the students from celebrating the day. They have also taken a step forward and informed the parents through text messages and diary entries that they keep a strict watch over their wards so that the children do not get to bunk school on that day. KAMS believes that there is an age for everything, and such kinds of celebrations do not suit school goers.

Instead of making it a matter of enforcement, authorities should rather celebrate with students on a lighter note!

The school authorities definitely have the best interest of the students in their hearts, but what they fail to realize is children often tend to indulge in those very acts from which they are forbidden. So, this disciplinary action might not hold much water because the students will fall prey to the Valentine’s Day fever some way or the other. They may not exchange gifts within the school on that very day, but they can always come up with a belated Valentine’s Day gift outside the school. After all, most students go for tuitions these days, and it should be cake walk for them do what they want. While it is okay to be strict and watchful when the kids are growing up, enforcing such rules and regulations are most likely to make matters even worse.

Lots of love stories have bloomed even under the strictest of circumstances, and what has to happen can happen even if the schools stop the celebration of this day for now. If the schools have to be disciplined and wary about what goes on each day, then strict disciplinary measures should be undertaken from the very onset. Kids tend to be more inclined towards doing what is prohibited. Instead, authorities should go down to their level of thinking and explain things in a friendly manner, without being strict about it.

If there is a problem, then it should be dealt with from the crux of the matter instead of forcing students to stay away from what the generation demands them to do.
