On 1st February 2018,Amitabh Bachchan took to his blog to announce that he will be working on a biopic on Vijay Barse who established the Nagpur based NGO Slum Soccers which helps to reform and involve slum kids with the game of football.

The Film is called Jhund and will be directed by Sairaat director Nagaraj Manjule. In his blog AB had written; “Most of the day is spent in getting the spine and shoulder to be somewhat functional so that when work starts tomorrow and it starts at night till morning on Thugs Of Hindostan. There is some mobility for me to be able to perform. So, this schedule lasts till mid-February and then on to the next film called ‘Jhund’ … in Hindi, which for those who are language challenged, means a bunch of people.” He further added, “The people here are a bunch of slum kids who meet the guy who takes them from a life of misdeeds to one of responsible nature and character. A biography in a sense. It is the life of a living human who actually did this and it’s in Pune from. Yeah, as I said, mid-February.”

But we’ve brought you more news about the film from the man himself! HFT spoke to Vijay Barse, and he told us more about the film and he gave us some valuable details about the film and his work.

Vijay tells that he started this initiative in 2001 when he saw a bunch on boys from different age groups at a neglected hockey ground in Nagpur. While a few of them were playing football with an empty plastic bucket. He watched them and saw how much they were enjoying it, he donated a football to the next and he asked them if they would like to play football and they agreed. He then formed two teams and that’s how the first match took place.That’s also how the ‘jhopadpatti football’ (slum football) was born. This encouraged him to take this match further and that’s how it grew and more people came to know about it.This is also a way to reform these boys and keep them away from doing the wrong things.

Speaking about his biopic, he says that he is very happy that a film is being made about it and that Amitabh Bachchan is going to be a part of it. He is happy because Amitabh is someone that everyone from a 5-year-old to a 100-year-old know about. “ Everybody loves him and so he’s the best choice to play this role as he will take my message forward,” adds Vijay.

He has not met Amitabh as yet but he says that if he asks for a meeting he will be more than happy to meet him. “ If he calls me and if I am free I would definitely like to meet him,” says Vijay. But Vijay has had numerous meetings with the director Nagaraj. “Nagraj comes to Nagpur to meet me often and he asks he all the small details about my life and my Slum Football,” informs Vijay. He also informed HFT that he has given the rights for the film to producer Meenu Arora and she will be producing the film.

Amitabh who is currently shooting for YRF next Thugs Of Hindostan has earlier played Bal Thackeray doppelganger in Ram Gopal Varma’ s Sarkar series. As per Amitabh’s message in his blog, Jhund will go on floors by the second half of February and as Vijay informs the film will be shot in Savitribai Phule University campus.
