Lion Whisperer who inspire kids – Kevin Richardson

Did you ever think of being with wild animals, eating with them and playing with them? However, if you ever do so, people see you like a drunk person. Besides these comments, we always wish to play with wild animals since our childhood. Now, this dream is a reality to this person. Known as the “Lion Whisperer”, Kevin Richardson spends his time with African wild animals in his sanctuary. So, today lets dive into the life of such a brave person.

Kevin Richardson, born on Oct 8th 1974, is a South-African self-taught sanctuary owner who works with African lions. He owns and operates the Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary, located an hour northeast of Johannesburg, South Africa. He is a serious opposer of “Canned hunting” which means hunting of lions within an enclosed place, making hunting easy. Kevin also runs a Youtube channel “The Lion Whisperer” which shows videos of interaction between himself and Wild animals.

Mr.Lion Whisperer used to work in a lion park as a lion handler that featured in a CBN program. He realized that the lion park sells cubs year-around. Finally, after they mature, they were shipped for canned hunting. As a great opposer of canned hunting, he left the park soon.

To solve this “Canned hunting”, he restricts the breeding of lions which reduce the likelihood of his lions being bought and sold for this purpose. He grows lots of affection with wild cats and even gives them names after popular characters Meg, Bobcat, Emy. It seems like these cats are good with others too. But Kevin warns that above all these are wild animals and they do have their wild character in their inside.

Sanctuary –

Richardson takes care of about thirty-nine lions in his facility. As of 2015, the Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary relocated to Welgedacht Private Game Reserve near Pretoria.

Richardson furthermore includes that he always move closer to animals with whom he was from their birth. He always warns people not to imitate him. Richardson does not allow his guests to go on these lion walks with him due to the same reason.

He has also worked with cheetahs, hyenas and leopards. But he prefers to be with lions. Though he feels comfortable with them, it almost took years to create such an attachment with them.  Despite his prior involvement in lion cub petting, Richardson rejects the traditional notion that lions should be mastered and dominated, preferring to develop a relationship over time, based on love and respect.

He still continues his bond with Tau and Napoleon, the lion brothers who were his introduction to big cats.

This Lion Whisperer seems to have a very good relationship with these wild cats told in an interview that he got scratched and bitten by these lions but is not dissuaded by these dangers. He told “People don’t the relationship between me and lions. They take this out of context”.He follows a rule that he interacts with lions which he knew since they were cubs.

Richardson’s 2010 documentary is entitled White Lion: Home is a Journey. The film is about a young white lion named, “Letsatsi,” who survives against all odds.

To conclude, this man holds great love and affection towards wild cats and protects them. As a result, these wild cats move with love with this “Lion Whisperer”.
