Tags: bike

Riding a Bike during a pleasant and cool atmosphere on a downhill road with trees covering both sides of the tree. The cool breeze touches your face and you feel the eternal freedom. This is the dream of a biker when he/she thinks to own a bike. Now, before you own a bike, you can follow a checklist to own a perfect bike.

Checklist –

  • Place of riding
  • purpose of riding
  • Parts to focus on in a bike
  • The budget of the bike

Place of riding –

This is the basic idea one needs to have before buying a bike. Will you ride on pavements or on mountains? Do you push yourself and your bike in a busy street while going to office? Are you the person who loves to go on a drive with your bike just to relax? There are many types of bikes such as mountain bikes, sports bike, city bike etc. The purpose of your purchase must tell you the reason you buy a bike. It can be a combination of uses with your bike.

Purpose of riding

This can help you to decide the cost of your bike. If you don’t use your bike much frequently, then a decent bike of the required type satisfies for your budget.

Bike anatomy

  • Frame – This is the core of your bike.  Made of metal (aluminium most often, steel sometimes, titanium rarely) or carbon fibre on more expensive models.
  • Wheels – Your tires will save you in your tough times. Made up of the rubber tire, the rim, and the hub, which connects to the rim via spokes. Nowadays, tubeless tires are common.
  • Suspension – Front and rear hydraulic shock absorbents smooth out bumps and jolts. The rougher the trail, the more suspension.
  • Engine capacity – Carefully choose the engine capacity as per requirements. The higher engine capacity will give higher power but will result in lower fuel efficiency. An engine with low capacity might provide low power but will of high fuel efficiency.
  • Drivetrain – Typically 1-30 gears with up to 12 in back and 1 – 3 in front. Gear cycle will be useful if you ride on a mountain.

As a biker, one needs to be very careful about the specifications of the bike. This will help to identify a problem and solve it if any arise.

New vs Used Bikes –

Today people show interest in both types based on their necessity and comfort. Before choosing any of the options, a biker needs to be careful by considering the following.

Price – Now, this is so usual. Used bikes cost less. Though this attracts us, this should be one of the priorities.

Condition –  Owning a used bike is a risk as we don’t know the hidden maintenance costs in it. You must check the records of the bike to determine the condition of brakes, engine, tyres etc and can go for a test drive for better understanding.

Documents – One must be very careful with the documents of the bike. If it is new, mostly showrooms take care of it. But when it is a used one, we need to transfer the documents on to the new owner name.

Trusted Seller – This problem arises when we buy a second-hand bike. We need to buy from a trusted seller so that in future there will be no problem.

The place to buy –

One can go to a showroom and find your favorite bike. There are many brands in India which are successfully running namely Honda, Bajaj, Yamaha etc. We can even find online sellers who are trustworthy. There are also good dealers whom you can contact online or meet personally to get a great deal.
