Police in California caught a person in the act of creating another contribution to the dangerous #InMyFeelings viral video Challenge.
California’s City of Madera Police Department posted a Facebook video Saturday of the moment when officers encountered someone dancing in the street next to a moving car.
The act has become popular after comedian Shiggy posted a video of himself dancing in the street to Drake‘s song, In My Feelings, on June 29.
Officers in the City of Madera Police Department were on patrol Friday night when they came across someone in the middle of filming a contribution to the #InMyFeelings challenge
In the dashboard cam video, the person can be seen dancing in the street next to a moving car. As police drive up to the car, the person hops inside the vehicle and shuts the door
Since then, people around the world have been filming themselves hopping out of moving cars and doing Shiggy’s dance to Drake’s song, then posting it on social media under #InMyFeelingsChallenge, which has also become known #DotheShiggy and the ‘Kiki challenge.’
Police have been warning people about the dangers of recreating the challenge, as many people have been injured and even hospitalized as a result of their actions.
In the Madera police video, which was captured by a cruiser’s dashboard camera and has gone viral itself, the police appear to turn the corner onto a road where someone can be seen dancing next to a silver car that has its front passenger door open.
When the officers shine their spotlight on the dancer, the person quickly hops into the passenger seat and shuts the door.
‘Last night one of the in-car-cameras in our patrol vehicles captured this dangerous incident. Fortunately, no one was injured,’ the police department wrote on Facebook.
The Madera police warned against the dangers of dancing in the street, mentioning the possibility of serious injuries, as well as the potential for traffic violation citations
‘We have all seen the viral videos associated with the ‘Kiki challenge’ and a number of them have involved the person in the roadway being injured or the driverless vehicle causing a collision. Please let common sense prevail!
‘Be aware that it is illegal for pedestrians to be in the roadway and for drivers to allow such activity. Participating in these type of dangerous activities can lead to tickets, fines, physical arrest and in worst case scenarios great bodily harm. There are already plenty of distractions out there, don’t create another one.’
The challenge has become an increasingly troublesome issue for police around the world, as people attempting the challenge have been seen being injured while trying to jump out of their moving vehicles, smacking into stationary objects and even being hit by cars coming from the opposite direction.
One Iowa teen, who was attempting the challenge, was airlifted to the hospital unconscious, with a skull fracture and bleeding in her brain, after she tripped and hit her head while exiting her moving car, WQAD reported.
On Friday, the same night that the Madera police filmed their video, Shiggy warned people about the dangers of jumping out of a car to participate in the challenge.
‘The “do the Shiggy” challenge started with me doing a dance outside in the street with my friends,’ Shiggy told CBS News. ‘But it got escalated to a different level… The message I have for kids doing this challenge is to be safe, stay in a safe area and just do the dance, you don’t have to get outside your car or do it in a moving car or anything involving a car you can do this anywhere. So kids be safe.’
