Grace Anigbata, a triple jump gold medalist at the 21st Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) championships tagged “Asaba 2018’’, on Tuesday said she would continue to improve and do her best.

Anigbata who recorded a personal best of 14.02 metres told newsmen in Lagos that with hardwork and commitment to training, she was hopeful of always excelling.

“I am so happy about the new personal best. I really thank God Almighty and my coach for making it possible.

“To all those who have been there for me, all I can say is may Almighty God bless them. My prayer also is that with Him who strengthens me, I promise to keep it up,” she said.

The Anambra indigene said her target for 2019 was to be the best in her events, which include the long jump.

“For 2019, I can’t say much about it for now, I believe God knows how it will go, but I will always put in my best and work hard to be the best in my events,” she said.

She, however, thanked the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for selecting her for the African Senior Athletics Championships (ASAC) which was held from Aug. 1 to Aug. 5.

Newsmen report that Kenya finished first at the 2018 ASAC with 19 medals, made up of 11 gold, six silver and two bronze.

South Africa had a total of 30 medals, comprising nine gold, 13 silver and eight bronze, to finish second.

Hosts Nigeria got 19 medals made up of nine gold, five silver and five bronze to place third.

Morocco, Ethiopia, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia and Botswana followed in that order.
