History

After independence, agriculture has contributed a lot in returning India to its economy. It is the reason why India is called an agricultural country. Chaudhary Charan Singh was a farmer leader who initiated many policies to improve the lives of Indian farmers. He also spent his entire life in the rural areas of Indians. Although he became the Prime Minister for a very short time, he talked about the welfare of the farmers. Because of his work, every year in India, Farmers’ Day is celebrated on his birthday. The Government of India first started celebrating National Farmers Day in 2001 on the birthday of Chaudhary Charan Singh.

National Farmers Day (2021) is considered very important for farmers Because it gives the idea of empowering the farmers of the society with the latest learnings of the agriculture sector. Even today, more than half of the population in India is dependent on agriculture and allied activities. Therefore, on Kisan Diwas, there are programs related to agriculture in many places.
