These are the original sketches and some color/tonal variations for one of the illustrations I had most fun in creating this year. I´m a big John Carter fan ( both of the books and the “John Carter” of Mars movie and so this image was inspired by that.
It was also inspired by the work of Michael Wheelan which back in the 70s created some iconic covers for the Edgar Rice Burroughs original John Carter novels.
