She was born on 2nd February 1934 in Surulere, Lagos State in the western part of Nigeria. She passed at the age of 82 on 6th July 2016 at her residence in Surulere, Lagos State in the western part of Nigeria. She was born and bred in Nigeria but completed her higher education in England, United Kingdom on the back of a federal government scholarship. She launched her career in the year 1965 when she left England for Nigeria where her career began as a presenter and newscaster for Nigerian Television Authority NTA in 1966.

Zainab Bukky Ajayi was a devout Muslim even though she was born a christian. She converted to Islam in the early eighties and chose the name Zainab.

Educational Background

Bukky Ajayi was birthed in Nigeria but completed her higher education in England, United Kingdom on the back of a federal government scholarship. At her youthful days, she got a government scholarship which enabled her to study in England. She was abroad for six years. She completed her formal education , primary and secondary school education in Surulere . She obtained both her First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate in Surulere, Lagos State before she traveled to England on Scholarship.

Career And Rise to Stardom

Her career effort started in year 1965 when she left England for Nigeria where her career began as a presenter and newscaster for Nigerian Television Authority in 1966. When she left England and came back to Nigeria, she worked with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) as a presentation assistant in 1966 after which she became a presenter and then a news reader.

She officially made her movie debut in the television series “Village Headmaster” during the ’70s before she went on to feature in “Checkmate”, a Nigeria television series that aired during the late 1980s to the early 1990s . She movie career enjoyed many best moments before she reigned for donkey years before she stopped appearing in movies.

While she was in very well present in the Nollywood , she was able to feature in several films and soaps including Critical Assignment, Diamond Ring, Witches among others. In 2016, She contributed a lot to the Nigerian film industry and her efforts was acknowledged and recognized and she and Sadiq Daba were awarded the Industry Merit Award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. Some of Bukky Ajayi’s popular movies include Mother of George, Indecent Girl, Diamond Ring, Witches, Thunderbolt among others.

Personal Life

Bukky Ajayi was married with three lovely children namely Olakunle Fawole, Alfred Oluwole Shoga, Claude Akinwande Peter Thomas. She also survived with several grandchildren and She is a Great-grandmother too. She is widely respected for her ability to interpret her roles very well and can fit in any character given to her by movie directors. She’s Jazzman Olofin’s grandmother-In-law.

She reportedly died at her residence in Surulere, Lagos State on 6th July 2016, Bukky Ajayi died . She left this world at the age of 82
