Vector tha Viper whose real name is Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, is a Nigerian Hip hop artist. Vector is one of the most celebrated and respected Nigerian rapper who has managed to put his name on the African Hip hop map.

He is labelled one of the most industrious and hard working rapper from Nigeria. Vector has released three studio albums, State of Surprise (SOS) and The Second Coming (2012).

While his second studio album was being awaited, he released a mix tape titled “Bar Racks”. “Lafiaji” which was released in December, 2016. Needful to say, he was voice behind the Sprite commercial that has aired on most radio stations across Nigeria since 2009. He has won several awards and earned lots of nominations to his name.

Early Life And Background

Olanrewaju Ogunmefun aka Vector tha Viper was born October 4th in Ogun State, into a family of five children, he is the fourth child. He had his formal education at in Nigeria attending Command children school, Ijebu Ode Grammar School, Government College Victoria Island & Saint Gregory’s College before he got admission into University for his higher studies.

His music career kick started in junior secondary school far back in 1994. He officially started involving himself in various social activities where he had the opportunity to perform on stage. In 1999, he formed a duo called Badder Boiz, who wrote their own songs and in the same year went on to start performing at showcases as a trio. As a ground, they recorded their first demo in 1999, and attended talent showcases and other events . The group that consisted of Vector, Krystal & Blaze, who were together for some years and finally dis-bounded in year 2004 when Krystal left due to irreconcilable differences.

After completing his primary and secondary school education, he proceeded to the University of Lagos and graduated in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. As you can see, Vector is one of the Nigerian rappers that is a graduate.

Music Career

After launching his professional music career, he released his first official single “Kilode” for the album State of Surprise in February 2010. He went fort to release the visual for the video for “Kilode” in June 2010. In April of the same year, he released his second official single was “Mary Jane”. His first studio album was released on 29 October 2010, executive produced by Eloka “Culture” Oligbo. It featured 2 Face Idibia, General Pype, Chuddy K, Ade Piper, Emmsong, Sista Soul and with productions from H-Code, Sam Klef, Da Piano, J-Smith, Xela Xelz and Vibez Production.

In June 2011, Vector released a video for the song “Get Down” featuring 2Face Idibia. He has won several awards and earned several nominations. He was nominated for “Best Mainstream Hip Hop Video at the Nigerian Music Video Awards 2011. He was nominated at the 2010 Nigeria Entertainment Awards for “Best Collaboration With Vocals” with the track “Champion” in which he was featured in by General Pype.

Vector released his singles “Angeli” ft. 9ice and “Mr. Vector” featuring Jazzy on 19 May 2011 and both tracks produced by Sagzy . The critically acclaimed singles were on heavy rotation on radio stations around the country. The video for “Angeli” was released in October, 2011. HE also went on to release “Born Leader” featuring Mavado of DJ Khaled’s We the Best Music Group. This song was his third single off his second album titled The Second Coming. He shot the video in Miami, Florida and it was directed by Antwan Smith. Fast forward to August 2013 , Vector was featured by Pheelz a producer on a song titled “Popular” which gained airplay in radio stations across Nigeria.

Fast forward to n January 2015, he spawned a rap single titled “King Kong” and the visual of this song was released the same month. As one of his hottest rag song, he went on to release two remake of the song. He featured Phyno, Reminisce, Classiq and Uzi in one and featured Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie in the other one. The both remix was released in May and June 2015. He went on to release the visuals for the e first remix in July 2015. He also released a fresh single titled “Kanawan Dabo” in July 15 and also a freestyle titled “8” in July 24.
