“I did my Youth Service in Kaduna with the Centre for Education Management, it was then located along Dawaki Road. After that, I picked up a job with NAN (News Agency of Nigeria). I was there till I got into acting”.

Career

Amaechi Muonagor served his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1989 and was able to secure a job at News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as a reporter. He later quit his reporting job to launch his acting career.

The gentleman actor, Amaechi Muonagor who is known as a man of few words joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) in the year 1990 when he landed his debut role in the movie titled “Taboo” in which he played the role of Chief Akunatakasi.

He achieved massive fame the following year after starring in the Nollywood blockbuster movie “Igodo” , one of the most watch Nollywood movies according to revelations. “Igodo” earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, he have also earned a nomination at AMVCA 2017 Best Actor In A Comedy 2016 edition.

One of his best movies is a 2003 movie , a Nollywood blockbuster comedy movie “Aki na Ukwa” which he acted alongside Osita Iheme and Chinedu Ikedieze. This movie of one of the most popular film ever produced in Nigeria and it earned him a nomination for Best Actor in Comedy at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.

How exactly did you get into acting?

I would rather say it was accidental because I was just at a talkshow  somewhere around the National Theatre. It happened that some of those involved in this production came around to drink in one of the bars. While doing that, I overheard them complaining about one of the characters not being able to carry his role. So, when eventually we got talking, they said it was my kind of voice that they needed for the role. There and then, they asked me to go through the script and that was how I got my first role as Akunatakasi in Taboo 1.

Personal Life

The actor is known as a faithful man who has been involved in only one marriage. He is married and his union is cemented with four beautiful and healthy kids.

Amaechi Muonagor’s Illness
