Born Richard Mofe Damijo better known by his stage name “RMD”, is a Nigerian actor and politician who gained recognition after launching his acting career many years ago. RMD is the former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State. He has bagged many awards , one of them is “Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role”. He is one of the finest and best Nigerian actors and he has been in Nollywood for many years and still counting . He is currently an ambassador for some giant Nigerian companies including Telecommunication company, GLOBACOM.

Early Life And Background

Richard Mofe Damijo, aka RMD was born on the 6th of July year 1961. Mofe-Damijo was born in Aladja community of Udu Kingdom, near Warri, Delta State. He was born into a family of of 18, he completed his secondary school education at Midwest College, Warri and Anglican Grammar School. While in secondary school, he was a member of the Drama Club. After his secondary education, he got admission into the University of Benin, where he studied Theater Arts. He returned to the university in 1997 to study law at the University of Lagos and graduated in 2004 . Before he started acting professionally, he took part in all dramas in school, especially the religious ones where he played Jesus or Peter mostly. According to the veteran actor in a recent chat, he disclosed that leadership was thrust upon him while he was still in secondary school. He started off being a member of the dramatic society, he went to all boys school and started out playing female roles.

Career

Richard Mofe Damijo acting career kicked started after he graduated from the university. After graduating from the university, he took part in a television soap opera in the late 80’s called “Ripples”. Prior to this time, he had a stint with Concord Newspapers and Metro Magazine as a reporter. His first try in movie production was in a movie movie titled “Out of Bounds” and he also received a writer credit. In 2005 at the maiden edition of the African Movie Academy Awards he won the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He also won Special Recognition Award at 2012 Best of Nollywood Awards, LifeTime Achievement Award at 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards amongst other awards.

She died in 1996, after her death RMD re-married a TV personality, Jumobi Adegbesan, who later left TV for the corporate world.
