Aisha Muhammadu Buhari is the beautiful wife of the president of Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari , who became the president of Nigeria after winning the 2015 general election, held on March 28, 2015. Early Life, Background, Childhood And Family

Aisha was birthed on 17 February 1971 in Adamawa State, Northeastern Nigeria into a wealthy family popularly known as Ankali. Her grandfather, Alhaji Muhammadu Ribadu was Nigeria’s first Minister of Defence while her biological father was a civil engineer. Her mother is a descendant of the Ankali family, renowned farmers and textile giants. She completed her basic education in Adamawa state Nigeria where she lived with siblings, her nieces and nephews. She legally tied the knot with Muhammadu Buhari In February 1989 but her husband already had five children from a previous Marriage to “Safinatu Yusuf”. Aisha and her sweet husband Buhari is currently blessed with five children and one grandchild.

Higher Education And Business Career

After completing her primary and secondary school education, Aisha Buhari proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) to obtain a degree  in Bachelor of Arts from the department of Public Administration . She also holds a master’s degree in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. The first lady didn’t end her education there as she is currently undertaking a Counselling Course on Co-Dependency in the United Kingdom. The ravishing mother of five also bagged a Diploma in Beauty Therapy from the Carlton Institute of Beauty Therapy, Windsor, United Kingdom . She specialised in Permanent Make-up, Mesotherapy and Micro-dermabrasion.

As if that is not enough, She also holds a post-graduate diploma in cosmetology and beauty from Academy Esthetique Beauty Institute of France. It is also worthy of note that she is a member of the United Kingdom Vocational Training and Charitable Trust and the International Health and Beauty Council. She has been tagged as one of the most influential woman in Nigeria today who puts first the interest of all women  and children in her endeavours.

Before she acquiried her higher degrees, she was earlier into Beauty and fashion and i lightly touched that aspect in the previous paragraphs. She established Hanzy Spa and Principal of Hanzy Beauty Institute, a Beauty salon in Kaduna and Abuja. She ran this business as the Founder/Managing Director . Mrs. Buhari is also a Resource Person to the National Basic Technical Education (NBTE), on Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology and has fully partook in the curriculum development of Small Medium Enterprises for NBTE.

She closed her  Hanzy Spa and Principal of Hanzy Beauty Institute after her husband became the president of Nigeria so that she could fully function as the first lady working hand in hand with her husband. Prior to closing her beauty shop, she wrote a book “Essentials of Beauty Therapy”: A Complete Guide for Beauty Specialists” .

Following the suicide bombing and an alleged assassination attempt on her husband, Buhari In July 2014, she counselled Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to resign from office as President of Nigeria. She advised the then incumbent president to resign his office as a women’s right activist and child right Advocate. She is also well known as one of the few Nigerian women who strongly criticised child marriage and homoséxuality while others were afraid to talk about it.

Being a vocal advocate of women’s rights and children rights , she focused on this focal point during her campaign for her husband’s election in 2015 and it was a campaign strategy that gave her husband an edge over his opponent. She also stressed the need for young girls to embrace education before getting married, she made it very clear that a girl is not suppose to get married before the age of 17.

Speaking in the Global Women Conference held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in May 2015, Aisha Buhari emphasised and stressed the need for Nigerian laws that will protect the women from forced early marriages, sèx trafficking and other issues Nigerian girls and women are facing in the society. She also used that opportunity to talk about the prevailing rate of Child sèxual abuse in Nigeria, sëx trafficking and the need to kick against early marriage. She had longed for a meeting with the mothers of the abducted Chibok Girls for a very long time, but she finally met with some of them on 12 June 2015.

On 14 April 2016, She reportedly donated proceeds from her book “Essentials of Beauty Therapy” to parents of the Chibok girls,the Buni yadi boys murdered in 2014 and children suffering from malnutrition. In October 2016 Aisha Buhari said something very shocking, she revealed that she wouldn’t back her husband in the next election because she isn’t impressed with the way her husband is running the government. Reacting to this statement , Muhammadu Buhari responded that she belonged in his kitchen and the other rooms.

“I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”

Aisha Buhari founded Future Assured which is an initiative to continue her advocacy work for the health and well-being of women and children through community mobilization and health promotion. She founded Future Assured as an attempt to improve the current poor health outcomes of women, children and other vulnerable citizens of Nigerian . She has made it known that she is committed to working towards achieving the desired objective of improving the health and well being of the citizens of this country.

She is also working with Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria to rehabilitate them as a result of the current Boko Haram insurgency in many Northern states of the country. She has started distributing relief materials to the affected people after paying a visit to IDP camp in Borno.

She is generally regarded as a mother to all because she is more interested in the well-being of every Nigerian especially women and children who are less fortunate.
