Raazi crosses Rs.200 Crore plus, and soaring high on Alia Bhatt wave

Alia Bhatt has done it. Raazi has joined the Rs.200 crore-club at the international movie box office. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is also proud of Alia and team for the film has collected more than Rs 207 crore worldwide till now.

In home turf, Raazi has done well too on box office. It has earned more than Rs.120 crore in India.

The movie is Alia’s third in a series to enter the Rs.100 cr plus club, after 2 States and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, which too got a lot of applause from the audience.

Raazi is a serious attempt in its treatment of the idea of a Kashmiri woman who offers herself in the service of the nation. It is not about the contents merely, it is much about the package and its treatment which separates it from the present-day Bollywood. It is marked with a lot of realistic performance, fast and crispy sequences and artful production techniques. In the movie, Alia Bhatt is a central character who did justice to her by performing impressively. She acted as a spy who betrays her family. There is no obvious sentimentality or flag-waving. Nevertheless, few scenes of the movie puzzle a section of audiences.

The movie Raazi is based on Harinder S Sikka’s fiction “Calling Sehmat”. Here, a 20-year-old woman across the country takes over her father’s espionage duties, who just passed away and wanted her to take command. It is about the 1971 war when Bangladesh was not born. Sehmat Khan’s father, Hidayat Khan, is shown an affluent Kashmiri businessman. He had been making use of his relations with Pakistani Army officers for India’s espionage agency.

His daughter is doing a course in Delhi when Hidayat learns that his country is in danger and would not live more due to an ailment. It is informed that Pakistan was planning a secret military operation to keep East Pakistan in case something happens. Hidayat offers the services of his daughter for this. After a strenuous training, Sehmat is married into the family of a Pakistani top army officer.

“Calling Sehmat” novel claims to be not a fiction only. They say it is based on real incidents and characters. Sehmat’s love for her father is shown with her dedication to the Indian flag– the tricolour, and she does not question the wisdom of her mission.

Overall, if it is successful at box office, nothing else matters.
