The TV Anchor from Chattisgarh Who Read Her Husband’s Death!

Life is tough…yes, so tough that one can not imagine what is in store for him or her, the next moment. The 28-year old Supreet Kaur, the news anchor of a private regional news channel did not visualized that she was reading…getting live inputs of her husband’s fatal crash.

It was 10 am as usual on Saturday. About 15 minutes into the bulletin, she broke news about a car accident in Mahasamund that had left three dead. Kaur spoke to a local reporter who gave more details but no names. Soon she learnt that she was reading news live about her husband’s death. Kaur kept her composure and continued the bulletin on IBC 24 for at least 10 minute. She broke down once the cameras were off.

The reporter said three of the five people travelling in the vehicle were dead. Though he did not identify the dead, there was enough for Kaur to instantly realise it could be her husband. He too was to travel in a Renault Duster along the same route during the same time along with four companions.

“As she read out the news, she found out that it was the vehicle her husband was to travel in in that region on the same day. Even though the reporter on the ground did not give out names, the team could tell that she had found out. The production team had also just found out, but could not tell her as she was live on television,’’ said a senior editor with IBC 24, one of Chhattisgarh’s leading Hindi channels.

“She is an extremely brave lady. We are proud of her as an anchor, but what happened today has left us in shock,” said a colleague. Kaur, 28, has been a news anchor with IBC-24, one of Chhattisgarh’s most-viewed channels, for the past nine years. Hailing from Bhilai, she had married Harsad Kawade a year ago and the couple were residents of Raipur. Kaur has left for the accident site. But back at office of the TV channel, her courage is dominating the conversations.

Twitter is abuzz with messages lauding her efforts and professionalism.

“She got a sense that it was her husband’s vehicle. She read the bulletin and only when she came out of the studio, she started calling her relatives,” a senior editor said.
