Beyoncé and Jay-Z have reportedly bought the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail’s first unit. The couple reportedly paid $28 million (or around ₹205 crore) for the first unit of the Boat Tail.
Rolls-Royce recently took the wraps of Boat Tail, which can be dubbed as the pinnacle of luxury and customization. The uber-luxurious car has been built by the company’s special Coachbuilding division that specializes in hand-building cars, thus setting a new bar for the level of customization.
It took the division four years to make the Boat Tail as per the specifications of the clients who have paid $28 million (or around ₹205 crore) for the first unit of the Boat Tail. This makes it the world’s most expensive car. And just so you know, Rolls-Royce has made only 3 units of Boat Tail, which means each of the uber-luxurious cars are ultra-exclusive.
Now, the company has not officially revealed the first owners of the sedan but the word on the interweb is that power couple from the entertainment industry — Beyonce and Jay-Z — are the first owners of the Boat Tail. This means that they had especially commissioned the vehicles around four years ago.
Rolls-Royce didn’t name the couple but did mention that they have a penchant for Yachts, which was the source of inspiration for the Boat Tail. The couple who bought the first unit also love the colour blue, something that Beyonce and Jay-Z are obsessed with ever since their daughter Blue Ivy was born. And let’s not forget that couple already has a few Rolls-Royce cars like Phantom and Silver Cloud.
Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is hand-built, which means the exterior is uninterrupted by panel breaks, monolithic in scale, and formed from one seemingly endless surface. The overall silhouette is inspired by yachts and motorboats and this inspiration is all the more clear from the rear that houses a tapered boot.
The sedan features signature RR design highlights like the pantheon grille and headlamps but the deep-set DRLs lend to the Boat Tail a contemporary look. The wrap-around windscreen is further reminiscent of the visor on motorboats.
One of the highlights of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is the rear deck that, at the press of a button, opens up in a butterfly gesture to reveal a hosting suite. This suite is aimed at offering an al fresco dining experience with one side dedicated to aperitifs and the other one to cuisine.
It also has engraved cutlery, a double refrigerator to house the clients’ favourite champagne, cocktail tables, and stools for seating.
Rolls-Royce hasn’t revealed details about Boat Tail’s engine but we believe it is the 6.75-litre V-12 engine that puts out 563 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 850 Nm of peak torque which is available from 1,600 rpm.
This engine is coupled to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic satellite aided transmission which uses GPS data to pre-select the optimum gear for upcoming corners.
