Some possessions in life are priceless. The most valuable of them all could be your most cherished relationships. When it comes to a collector like me, the second best definitely would be my collection of Antique Indian Coins that I have put together over a period of nine years. If I have to take names of special items from my collection, it would definitely be rare coins of British India. Some of them have fallen into my kitty after years of patience, dedication and research, and that, I believe is the best part of this exciting hobby. Before I got introduced to this hobby, I used to feel that I don’t have any motive in life. Ever since my grandfather showed me antique coins of India from his collection, I fell in love with them instantly, almost like love at first sight. My non-collector friends keep wondering what is it about numismatics that keeps me so excited all the time. All I have to tell them is, start collecting the rarest coins of India, and you will find out for yourself.

There are many types of hobbies that one can indulge in. Each one of them has its merits. I believe that coin collection is one of the very few hobbies that doesn’t just make you happy but also increases your knowledge. Before I ventured into this hobby, I had absolutely no interest in academics, particularly in history. I never paid attention to what my teachers are saying. Then the magic happened. I still remember that day when I had gone to visit my grandfather during summer vacations. I was probably in my 6th grade when he showed me his collection of colonial coins. At first, I did not even look at those coins. But later, my grandfather told me interesting stories of how he had acquired those antique coins of India collection. I was hooked on to his stories from then on. I went back home with a new resolution in mind. I had decided that I would also try building my own collection of Antique Indian Coins. Interestingly, I also started paying attention to my history lectures as I was reading about colonial coins in detail. I started relating those stories written in my history text books with the coins that I had collected. My life changed once and for all. There was a new motive in life. Something to look forward; something that will keep me engrossed for a long period of time!

No matter where I went from there on, I tried to find out if anybody had rare coins of British India with them. I started meeting other collectors once in a while through local coin clubs in my area. My parents were not really happy with my new hobby in the beginning but slowly realised that it is having a positive effect on my attitude towards learning new concepts. As years passed by, I continued with my academics and even started working in a private firm. But nothing could stop me from following my passion.

I dream to own a beautiful collection of the rarest old coins of India. It might take me several more years to achieve that goal. But for me, the journey is more important than the destination. In the process of finding unique coins, I am also upgrading my knowledge about India’s vibrant cultures and history. Not just that, I am also making new friends by attending coin seminars and exhibitions that take place in and around my location. Yes, I do get frustrated at times when I don’t find what I am really looking for. But that’s the part of the game, you need to be up for it as a collector. In the mean time you can always continue doing your research so that you know everything about the rarest coins of India!
