Court Convicts Degeneral Of Drug Trafficking

Instagram comic Joshua Sunday, also known as Degeneral, and one Caleb William, a cinematographer, were found guilty of narcotics trafficking by Justice Daniel Osiagor of a Federal High Court in Lagos.
According to Abokimusic News, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has taken Degeneral and William to court.

In his judgement, Justice Osiagor remarked that the amount of drug detected on them is insignificant, and that he would rather convict and caution the defendants than punish them.

He found the accused guilty and told them to “go and sin no more.”

Three counts of trafficking Tramadol and Cannabis Sativa were filed against the comedian and cinematographer.

The charge was accepted by Degeneral and William, who both pleaded guilty.
Following their plea, the prosecutor, Jeremiah Aernan, reviewed the facts of the case and presented evidence to the court through an NDLEA exhibit keeper, Lucky Oghaifu.

Statements of the defendants, drug analysis forms, certificates of test analysis, requests for scientific aid forms, and packaging of substance forms are among the evidence presented.

He urged the court to follow Section 356(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and convict the defendants on the basis of their pleas as well as the prosecution’s evidence.

The defendants were accused of committing the crime on January 12th, according to the complaint.

They were arrested in the Lekki district of Lagos for illegally trading in 15 grams of cannabis and 14 grams of tramadol, according to the prosecutor.

The offence, he added, is in violation of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

Lilian Omotunde, the Defense Counsel, urged the court to consider other options besides condemning the offenders, arguing that they were still in their prime and may still be beneficial to society.
