He is followed by Arunachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Pema Khandu who has assets worth Rs. 132 crores. If we look at the assets of north-eastern CMs, the worth of eight north-eastern CMs i.e., Rs. 178.85, is equal to the worth of other CMs’ combined assets, barring Reddy.

The poorest CM among all the 30 chief ministers is the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee with assets worth 15 lakhs. Just above Mamata Banerjee lies Bihar’s CM, Nitish Kumar who has assets worth Rs. 56 lakhs. Another CM with assets below 1 crore is Pinarayi Vijayan who has assets worth 73 lakhs.

What Is An Affidavit?

An affidavit is filed by the candidates standing for Lok Sabha or Assembly elections and declares essential information about him/her like properties, or cases. These affidavits are a public disclosure of a candidate’s assets that helps the voters make an informed choice.

An affidavit contains details of total assets, immovable assets, movable assets, investments, bank balance, liabilities (divided into categories), criminal cases pending against him/her, land ownership, agricultural land, non-agricultural land, residential buildings, commercial buildings, and educational qualification.

These details filed in the affidavit help us in figuring out which candidate owns what and thus, allow us to make an informed decision about our leaders.
