Google could unveil standalone VR headset at I/O 2017

Google is no stranger to the existence of multiple projects related to the same technology, although not successful each. So when the rumor broke out that Google is making yet another fledged headset, there really was not much of a surprise. This headset, however, can turn the market fled on its head. If the rumors are true, the headset that Google is supposed to unveil at Google I / O this week will be one of the most advanced equipment in the hats market. And it will not even need a smartphone.

Google already has a fled platform. In fact, it was two. The first was Cardboard, who made a fug in the project de. This dream was followed by the daydreaming of the present that casts its amateur characters for something a little more streamlined and marketed. However, both, they have one thing in common: they need a smartphone to work.

In contrast, the new FAR headset, which may still come under the Daydream project, will be able to work by itself, much like the FIT HITS, RCA, RCA and PlayStation. However, you will differentiate itself with the advantage that none of those yet. This independent headset is supposed to be able to track the user’s position and movement without using an external tracker created throughout the room.

Google calls this “internal” tracking, possibly because of its origins to the Tango project, which is now part of the larger daydream team. Tango uses a variety of sensors, including cameras, infrared, and gyroscopes to refer to the device’s position in 3D and real-world space. This information, however, is mostly used in fact enhanced service rather than virtual reality.

As interesting as this new headset may sound, hardware is always only part of the story. The platform will live and die through the content available for it. In this regard, Google has been laying the groundwork for larger and more sophisticated fledger experiences, with acquisitions of Teltrush and, more recently, the function of simulator game creators Ulshimi Labs.

Then again, like any Google project, such as Google Glass, Project Ara, Titan Project, and more, this headset can really be detected fled new, only to be canceled years from now. Join us as we cover Google I / O this week to explain what Google might consider in the virtual reality space.
