POWERHOUSE SOUTHERN AVENUE BRINGS SOUL TO BROOKLYN BOWL

TENNESSEE ROCK IN BROOKLYN

Photos by Brittany NO FOMO

It was no doubt that early arrivers for DUMPSTAPHUNK were pleasantly surprised by the powerful sound of opener – deserving of headliner – Southern Avenue. The minute audacious and beautiful Tierinii Jackson got on the mic, and her show-stopping voice belted out over the band, it seemed that everyone at Brooklyn Bowl said, “Damn!” in unison and made their way to the front of the stage. The band’s smiles, grooves, and soulful sound drew everyone in.

The energy this bold band brings is unlike many live performances, giving us hope that this Tennessee crew can set a new standard for what it means to put on a show. The band played catchy songs that you find yourself singing to even if it’s your first time hearing it, like the crowd favorite, “Don’t Give Up“. The rest of the set was filled with Southern Avenue’s love songs that you wish you had the balls to say, like “What Did I Do?”, “Love Me Right”, and “Slipped, Tripped, and Fell In Love”. The night included hair flips, improv piano and guitar solos, and a beautiful rendition of “Come Together”.
