Tracking Nazi-looted art dealers: Restitutions as data

In honor of the Conference "Tracking Looted Art, we are looking at some digital tools and methods that may be helpful.

1) Look at the names that appear in provenances published by the auction houses that sell the restituted artworks after the Nazi-looted art has been restituted to the Jewish families

==> Which names appear BETWEEN two dates:
- the date of RESTITUTION.

In this approach, we focus, not on the plundered Jewish collector* or on the agent of Nazi looting, but on the intermediaries in the art market though whom the looted artwork passes before it is discovered and restituted.

Why? Because if they traded in one artwork that was looted, it cannot be excluded that they traded in more.

(* plundered Jewish collectors mentioned in the provenances of restituted artworks published by Christie's: Jacques Goudstikker, Fritz Gutmann, Anna and John Jaffé, Dr. Curt Glaser, Rudolf Mosse, Georges Wildenstein, Julius and Camilla Priester, Hans Ludwig Larsen, Hugo and Elisabeth Andriesse,Bruno and Ellen Spiro, Alice and Louis Hirsch, Baron Ferenc Hatvany, René Gimpel, Maximilian Baron von Goldschmidt-Rothschild, Alfred Lindon, Federico Gentili di Giuseppe, Dr Heinrich Rieger,  Else and Leo Smoschewer, Louis von Rothschild, Schönburg-Waldenburg, Dr. Max Stern, David David-Weill, Bernhard Altmann, Henri Kapferer, Dr Herman Eissler, Adele and Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, Paul Rosenberg, Otto Krebs, Ottmar Strauss, Gaston Albert Belf, Mr Kurt M. and Mrs Henriette H.
