Boar Bristle Beard Brush: Far Better Quality Than You’d Expect

What’s amusing about having a Beard, is that some guys grow their beards like their living in the wilderness. They get caught up in the manly ritual and forget to do what’s natural to maintain it. I love my beard, but hey, I’m not living in woods, chopping down trees and shaving my neckline with a 10-inch knife by a riverbank. Beard grooming isn’t a sign of being less of a man, in fact, the better you take care of your beard the more it’s going to get noticed, and that’s important for those of us looking for a mate. If you ask me, grooming is not a weakness; it’s strength.

The reason I bring this up is that a buddy of mine was over last week who has been growing his beard for over a year now. I try my best not to critique it, but it was a mess. His beard was frazzled and wasn’t helping his chances with the ladies.

He was over visiting the family and while in the kitchen I picked up and began brushing my beard midsentence. I don’t usually keep my beard brushes laying around, but on this particular day, my favorite Boar Bristle Beard brush was just sitting there in the kitchen. The look on his face while I began brushing made think I had something on my face, other than a beard. He tried to tease me about owning a fancy brush just for my beard but quickly trailed off as I said nothing while promptly handing him the brush to try. This was no ordinary brush either, and now that I think about it, it was probably the best beard brush I owned that I could have passed him at that moment. It was the Boar Bristle Beard Brush from Liberty Liberty Premium Grooming Co. It’s one of my favorite things in my beard grooming kit. I love the handle, which is actually somewhat rare in comparison to most boar bristle beard brushes and the size of the brush, in my opinion, is perfect.

His reaction was priceless. His face went from smug and judgmental, to a look that I could only describe as the equivalent of holy shit. He was amazed how fierce the boar bristles moved throughout his beard, and within minutes his beard looked more organized and even softer. There were no words while he was combing his beard either, just this look like “I was wrong, where can I get one” lol.

Why use a Boar Bristle Beard Brush?

Beard brushes are made up of either boar hair, horse hair or are synthetic in construction. There are also brushes that have a mixture or combination of any of the three. However, the standard for beard brushes starts at the top with boar hair.

A boar bristle brush is not just popular because it sounds manly, it’s extremely complementary to both your beard and the skin on your face. The beneficial properties of boars hair are often overlooked as the bristles stimulate the natural oils (sebum) present in the scalp and draw them along the hair shafts, essential for keeping hair clean, healthy, shiny, and protected. To maximize the efficacy of your brush, we recommend cleaning it every few uses. To do that, simply wash it with light soapy water and rinse. For quick washes, a simple rinse will work. Towel dry and allow the brush to air dry overnight.

Horsehair is a bristle type that is starting to make its way back into men’s beauty products. Horsehair, much like boars hair, will hold quite a bit of oil when brushed through the beard, making for an excellent coverage of oils along your beard follicles. Although, Horsehair is typically not as rigid as boar hair, which is why some guys with thinner and shorter beards prefer it.

Synthetic beard brushes are made from a type of plastic or wooden spokes with plastic nubbed ends; synthetic brushes not high on my list, nor should they be as beard grooming is worth more than cheap plastic.

Which Is The Right Beard Brush Right for Me?

Honestly, it’s difficult to recommend someone a specific beard brush to someone as every brush and every beard is different. However, the thickness of your beard is a strong indication of the type of brush you should target. Whether it be something a little more hardcore like a boar bristle beard brush from Boar Bristle Beard Brush from Liberty Liberty Premium Grooming Co[/easyazon_link] or a softer brush which is better for those with beards with lighter more thin hair. The Modern Gentleman – by Liberty Premium Grooming Co

Like I mentioned above, The Modern Gentleman is one of the best beard brushes I’ve tried. Ideally, I think it’s better suited for thicker beards, but there’s no reason to assume a smaller beard couldn’t grow into this beard brush.  I use it once a week for a good 5-minute brush session. It stimulates the hair follicles and massages the skin under the beard. A thicker beard brush is also great for removing dirt and dead dry skin to prevent dandruff which is impossible to do with any comb.

This boar brush untangles the hair close to the skin at the follicle which makes my beard appear about 1/2 inch longer after a good brushing. It’s quite surprising the first time you try it, as it brings out all the hairs and evens out your beard.
