Websites in India are blocked as per court order under IT Act 2000. India Censors and block websites under copyright and trademark infringement. This block is initiated to ISPs under court order.
In the year 2015, around 800 sites were banned by the government for the pornographic contents and in the year 2016, more 200 sites were added in the list, sites were related to “Escort Services”.
DNS filtering is used to block such URLs and websites. This means the DNS of the blocked site was added to a list maintained by the internet service provider and whenever a user tried connecting to that site, the DNS server of the internet service provider would block that request.
