John Cena surprised everyone at the Oscars 2024 by going on stage completely naked to present the award for Best Costume Design. Before Cena’s entrance, host Jimmy Kimmel mentioned a funny incident from a past 46th Oscars ceremony in 1974. when someone streaked across the stage. This set the stage for Cena’s unexpected appearance.
When John finally appeared on stage, he jokingly poked his head out and told Jimmy Kimmel that he didn’t want to continue the streaker act. He felt it was inappropriate for such a classy event. He then added, “It’s an elegant event. Honestly, you should feel ashamed right now for suggesting such a tasteless idea. The male body is not a joke!” When Kimmel suggested that the WWE wrestler anyway wrestles nude, he added: “Dude, I don’t wrestle naked, I wrestle in jorts!” To this, Kimmel said that jorts are worse than being naked. This gave a comic effect for the audience.
Costumes are so important
During the event John Cena used a large winner’s envelope to cover up his private parts and walked to the middle of the stage, causing shock among the audience. He emphasized the importance of costumes, saying they might be the most crucial aspect of filmmaking. Later when the lights dimmed to announce the nominees, assistants quickly brought him a huge gown to wear. Cena then revealed the winner of the category, Holly Waddington, for her work in “Poor Things.” which garnered a total of 11 nominations at the 96th Academy Awards, further highlighting its prominence in the film industry. Emma Stone’s portrayal of Bella, a Victorian-era woman with a unique backstory, won against other nominees like Jacqueline Durran for “Barbie,” Jacqueline West for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Janty Yates and Dave Crossman for “Napoleon,” and Ellen Mirojnick for “Oppenheimer.”
