The docuseries titled ‘The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth’, which is based on the disappearance of Sheena Bora was scheduled to drop on Netflix on February 23. But it has been put on hold by Bombay HC.
The Bombay High Court has asked Netflix to show a special preview of its documentary series about the Sheena Bora case before putting it on their platform. The series, called “The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth,” claims to reveal new information about Sheena Bora’s disappearance. It was supposed to be released on Netflix on February 23, but Netflix said they have postponed the release until February 29.
The Central Bureau of Investigation was apprehensive because according to them series could affect their investigation, so they objected to the release. The court asked Netflix to arrange a special screening for CBI officers and postponed the matter to next Thursday. The series talks about Sheena Bora’s disappearance and what happened afterward, with Indrani Mukerjea giving her side of the story. Last month Netflix India wrote its release date in its Instagram caption that read “A sensational scandal that rocked the entire nation, with one family’s darkest secrets at the center of it all. The Indrani Mukerjea Story Buried Truth, coming on 23 February only on Netflix!”
About Sheena Bora’s case
The Sheena Bora case is of a young woman who was murdered in Mumbai in 2012. She was the daughter of Indrani Mukerjea, a media executive. But she was raised by her grandparents. The case to light in 2015 when Indrani’s former driver, Shyamvar Rai, confessed to the police about being involved in Sheena Bora’s murder. This confession eventually led to the arrest of Indrani Mukerjea, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, and her then-husband, Peter Mukerjea. The investigation revealed a complicated mix of lies, deceit, and family issues. The reason behind the murder was said to be personal, along with involving arguments over property and relationships.
The trial lasted for several years and had many shocking things, including claims of innocence and efforts to tamper with evidence. In May 2022, the Supreme Court granted bail to Indrani Mukerjea, saying that she had already been in jail for more than six years and the trial wasn’t ending soon. The court also noted that Peter Mukerjea, another accused, had been out on bail since February 2020. This decision came after a special leave petition was filed against a Bombay High Court ruling in November 2021.
