Haryana records the highest road accident in India, took 13 lives per day

According to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ “Road Accidents in India-2022” study, at least 13 persons, including at least three pedestrians, died on Haryana roads every day. In terms of the number of fatalities from Traffic Accidents, Haryana ranked 14th in the nation, with a 4.44% increase in deaths from 2021.

In 2022, the state’s death toll returned to pre-pandemic levels. 10,429 traffic accidents were reported last year (496 higher than in 2021), compared to 9,431 in 2020, 10,944 in 2019, and 11,238 in 2018. Comparably, 4,915 persons (4,110 men and 805 women) lost their lives in traffic accidents in 2022, 4,706 in 2021, 4,507 in 2020, 5,057 in 2019, and 5,118 in 2018.

According to the research, Haryana’s death rate was 5.7%, while India’s overall rate was 5.2%. According to the statistics, at least 1,677 of the 8,519 wounded individuals had severe injuries.

Among the most vulnerable groups on the roads, 1,231 pedestrians and 190 cyclists perished in various traffic accidents in Haryana in 2022. 68 children were among the pedestrians killed in traffic accidents (19 females and 48 males). 47 persons lost their lives and 130 accidents were attributed to potholes in the road.

At least 148 persons perished in auto rickshaw accidents, while there were 3,725 two-wheeler incidents that claimed 1,445 lives. There were 1,512 automobile and light motor vehicle accidents, resulting in 617 fatalities.

The biggest number of deaths—1,120 (957 men and 163 women) in the 25–35 age range were from traffic accidents, whereas 790 (643 males and 147 females) occurred in the 18–25 age group, which is thought to be the most productive.

The most common cause of accidents and fatalities was speeding, followed by drunk driving, which was responsible for 89 deaths and 141 accidents. Data shows that 2,166 people died in 4,800 incidents that occurred in urban areas, while 2,749 people died in 5,629 accidents that occurred in rural regions.
