Chandrababu Naidu sent for 14 days of judicial custody

Chandrababu Naidu, a former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), was incarcerated for 14 days till September 23 in connection with a massive corruption case. The Telugu Desam Party announced a state-wide bandh for Monday shortly after the court issued its ruling, in protest over the detention of its leader.

On Sunday, Chandrababu Naidu appeared before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court, which issued a decision on the Skill Development Corporation Scam.

After spending 14 days in judicial detention, Naidu, who was taken into prison early on Saturday, was brought before the ACB Court in Vijayawada on Sunday morning at 6 am.

In a pre-dawn raid on Saturday in Nandyala, Naidu was detained for his claimed involvement in the multi-million dollar Skill Development Corporation fraud. Officers arrived and knocked on the door of the trailer where he was sleeping before removing him.

On Saturday at approximately six in the morning, the CID detained the former CM outside a marriage venue in Gnanapuram, Nandyala, where his caravan was parked.

The development of clusters of Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in the state of Andhra Pradesh, with a total estimated project value of $300 crore, is the subject of the lawsuit, according to authorities. The agency representatives also asserted that the state government has suffered a significant loss of more than 300 crores as a result of the suspected fraud.

According to CID, the probe has uncovered anomalies, including the fact that the state government at the time granted an advance of 371 crores, or the whole 10% commitment by the government, prior to any spending by private firms.

According to CID authorities, the majority of the funds given by the government were fraudulently transferred to shell businesses through invoices, with no real delivery or sale of the goods listed on the invoices.

According to the CID’s remand report, the investigation has shown that the $371 crores in cash granted by the government of Andhra Pradesh and the AP Skill Development Centre are the sole source of the money used by private organisations to support six skill development clusters.

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister is Accused 37 (A37) in the Skill Development Corporation Scam Case, according to the Crime Investigation Department that detained TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu.
