Here’s why #BoycottJawan is trending on Twitter

The major cinema debut of Shah Rukh Khan’s Movie Jawan is barely hours away. The movie has stirred up controversy only a day before it opens in theatres. The movie trended on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the hashtag #BoycottJawan despite having record-breaking advance reservations.

Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, and Vijay Sethupathi all have major parts in Atlee’s film Jawan, which also features Nayanthara. Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu were used to create the movie.

A few days ago, the minister provoked controversy with a divisive speech that likened Sanatan Dharma to dengue and mosquitoes. The politician-producer said he was not concerned about legal action after this remark sparked a considerable outcry.

“There are some things which we have to eradicate and can’t merely oppose. Mosquitoes, dengue, fever, malaria and coronavirus, all these are things that we cannot oppose, we have to eradicate them. Sanatanam (Sanatan Dharma) is like this,” ABP Live published the statement by Stalin.

Udhayanidhi Stalin had stated in reaction to the mounting criticism and legal threats, “Bring it on. I am ready to face any legal challenge. We will not be cowed down by such usual saffron threats. We, the followers of Periyar, Anna, and Kalaignar, would fight forever to uphold social justice and establish an egalitarian society under the able guidance of our Hon’ble CM @mkstalin. I will say it today, tomorrow, and forever: Our resolve to stop Sanathana Dharma from the Dravidian land would not reduce even a bit.”

Red Giant Movies, owned by Udhayanidhi Stalin, is a production firm that also distributes movies. According to reports, the production company has secured the distribution rights to future pan-Indian blockbusters including Jawan.

Along with Udhayanidhi Stalin’s connection with the movie, Shah Rukh Khan’s recent visit to Hindu shrines before to the premiere of Jawan has also drawn criticism from some.

On September 7, Jawan will be shown in cinemas.
