Wardrobe Malfunctions At Oscars That You Can’t Ignore

Party: It’s, as the ads say, Hollywood’s biggest night. The last and most important of all the many film awards, absolutely every major actor, actress, and filmmaker is in attendance for the annual celebration of good to great movies. The contestants take to the red carpet, laugh happily at the host’s irreverent jokes, and cry through their emotional acceptance speeches (or sit in their seats pretending to be happy for the co-worker who beat them. )

Whether they’re winners, nominees, presenters, or just attendees, these stars do it all in priceless, elegant evening dresses…or boring tuxedos with bow ties.

Kety Perry

the 2017 Oscars, Katy Perry wore a shiny and tasteful asymmetrical Jean Paul Gaultier gown with uneven shoulders and a floor-level ripped skirt – but she ripped even more while the pop star wore it.

As Perry leaned over to watch a live stream of the Oscars while waiting for Vanity Fair ‘s post-Oscar party to begin, a photographer snapped an unfortunate photo of the singer from behind. In the blink of an eye, the top part of her dress separated from the bottom part of the dress, exposing a few strips of fabric and part of Perry’s behind.

Any other year, Perry’s dress opening would be the most talked about and googled moment of the night, but her fashion remained relatively obscure as it happened around the same time as the biggest oops of the Oscars in history – when La La Land was erroneously announced as the best picture winner due to a mix-up of envelopes.

Blanca Blanco’s Naked Illusion

Blanca Blanco, star of obscure films like Teen Star Academy, is probably best known for a wardrobe malfunction at the 2017 Academy Awards. She attended her boyfriend, actor John Savage (who starred in acclaimed films at the Oscars such as The Deer Hunter and The Godfather: Part III ,) and she arrived in a chic, greenish-yellow room.

The gigantic pieces of fabric on the shoulders and around the neck were eye-catching, but they didn’t distract much from the impossibly high slit of the dress… which revealed Blanco’s swimsuit area. She didn’t go commando under the dress, but she wore a bodysuit that matched her skin color so closely that it looked like Blanco was flashing everyone on the red carpet.

Anne Hathaway

When you think of “Anne Hathaway” and “the Oscar disaster,” you probably think of that time when she hosted the ceremony alongside a sleepy-eyed, grumpy James Franco, but maybe the timing Oscar’s most unfortunate Hathaway happened the night she won the 2013 Best Actress Oscar for Les Miserables.

Hathaway walked the red carpet in a pink Prada dress that was pretty and tasteful enough, except the front seams flowed across Hathaway’s chest in a way that outlined and accentuated her chest.

Funnily enough, that wasn’t the only wardrobe mishap Hathaway had this awards season. At the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, her dress strap broke and the zipper on the dress she wore to the Screen Actors Guild Award nearly gave way.

Elisabetta Canalis

Remember Elisabetta Canalis? She is a charming and talented Italian actress, but in the United States she is best known as one of the many women condemned to a love affair that George Clooney had to accept before marrying the former Amal Alamuddin, human rights lawyer who looks a lot like Anne Hathaway.

Anyway, Clooney brought Canalis to the 2010 Academy Awards, where he was nominated for his performance in Up in the Air . Canalis wore a sleek Roberto Cavalli strapless red number … that split in the back just as she and Clooney were supposed to hit the red carpet. Canalis had brought in celebrity stylist Jonathan Antin in the event of the hair melting, but according to Antin, it was Clooney who saved Canalis from falling out of her dress.

Judy Gree

In 2012, charming character actress Judy Greer — Kitty Sanchez on Arrested Development — was able to attend the Oscars and mingle in the pantheon of A-list demigods because she appeared in multiple The Descendants nominees. However, it wasn’t the magical evening at the Hollywood Ball that we hoped it would be for Greer, and a lot of that was down to her dress.

Greer wore a piece by designer Monique Lhuillier. She described it in her book, I Don’t Know What You Know Me By: Confessions of a Co-Star (via Vanity Fair ), as “tight, black, and modified to fit all my curves, and There are many. “

Emma Stone

Emma Stone attended the 2015 Oscars as a top contender for her role as a recovering drug addict in Best Picture winner Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). She didn’t win that night (losing to Patricia Arquette as a Child ), but she made quite a few “Best Dressed Oscars” lists for her delicate, green, sequined Elie Saab Haute Couture gown which seemed to be made from the finest diamond-studded seaweed the oceans had to offer.

But Stone’s dress would also put her on other lists…like here this collection of unfortunate, almost profane Oscar dress woes. This dress was so light and airy — and sported a large slit that went all the way to the thigh — that Stone briefly revealed her flesh-colored undies to various photographers and assorted red carpet watchers.
