American architect Louis Sullivan coined the phrase “form follows function” in 1896. In the intervening years nothing has changed as we simultaneously lurch and surge forward in our endeavor to merge form and function in the aesthetics of our materials goods.
To this end, a new section of my blog site will seek to discover and share with you items that I find in my never ending quest for that which does what it’s supposed to do and simultaneously pleases the eye, heart, and soul.
THE JAMBOX
The Jaxbox, a Wireless Speaker that's no bigger than a butter dish. |
The inspiration for this blog section is a Wireless speaker by Aliph, the San Francisco maker of the Jawbone wireless headset. Designed by the company’s CEO, Yves Behar, this butter sized wireless speaker fulfills the “form follows function” criteria perfectly. It’s elegant, functional, practical, and an indicator what’s to come in wireless technology for media.
