I've been working with a few clients lately on infusing their west Austin homes with "modern Texas farmhouse style."  I could post a ton of pics to give you examples .

 Here's just a small, curated sampling of what I love to incorporate :

Barn lighting in many shades of colors

Ship lap/horizontal wood & wall mount plumbing, simple vanities.

Modern landscaping elements such as concrete pads and pebble stones with groupings of plants.

Galvanized metals

Furniture with a modern edge or industrial edge.  These are new bar stools from World Market.  Loving the new design and grey wicker.

Horizontal woods/fencing.

House numbers  with a modern font.

Architectural details over the windows.

Exterior architectural details and modern planters with boxwoods.

HardiPlank siding running vertically (board and batten style)

Of course, barn doors, but also adding brick for a traditional, industrial look.

Modern graphic wallpaper in small amounts.
