Susan and I with the J Lambeth team

We are excited to be newly represented by the J Lambeth showroom in Washington DC.  A few years ago, the showroom moved to the new, Washington Design Center, which is a light-filled downtown location at the Franklin Court Building on 14th and L Streets, NW.

While in town for WDC Design Day, Susan and I met with many local interior designers, magazines, bloggers and heard from experts in the industry.  Our printed linen and cotton textiles hang in the wings, and are offered along with the many international and artisan brands J Lambeth represent.   We also accessorized the showroom with custom designed pillows from our collections, which are now offered for sale in the showroom.

For Design Day, J Lambeth hosted an informative CEU talk about the history, future and trends of wall coverings led by industry expert Jeannette Chen, Director of Wallcovering at Fabricut.

A little bit about J Lambeth:
We are happy to learn the Lambeth family has been a part of the home furnishings industry for more than a century, showing a deep commitment to supporting the design community and artisan brands. Their roots go deep-- members of the Lambeth family were founders of Standard Chair Company in Thomasville, North Carolina back in 1898.

Ann Lambeth, was the former Vice President, and wife of Jim Lambeth, as well as one of the founding members of the Washington Design Center where she served for more than 40 years.   She acted as an advisor to the CEO of the Tomlinson Companies, Rod Lambeth.  Ann is credited with championing boutique collections for textiles, wallpaper and furniture as well as supporting young design talent.  Today, the showroom carries that vision forward.

Strong women are part of the company's lineage, beginning with Jim Lambeth's mother, Katharine Covington Lambeth who was a prominent fixture in the furniture world.  She was first president and co-founder (along with her husband James Erwin Lambeth) of furniture company, Erwin-Lambeth. A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Katharine had a passion for interior designer.  She set the tone for J Lambeth long ago as a pioneer in the industry, and at a time when it was unheard of for women to forge ahead as titans of industry.  She operated her company from a woman's point of view, intuitively knowing what was missing in the furniture industry. Katharine was known for saying she wanted two things that were not available to her as an interior designer-- “choices” and “quality”. She is a respected woman in the industry, and was listed in the "Who's Who of American Women".   Later in her career, she was referred to as "Mama K", and was known for treating her employees as part of the family.

"build to a standard, not a price" - K.C. Lambeth
Learning all of this, one can imagine we are grateful to be part of the J Lambeth community.
