Go Metallic for a Change in Your Bedroom

Welcome 2016 with a bang by incorporating a Metallic touch in your bedroom. This is simple to do and will give your modern bedroom a new smooth shiny look. Do not overdo it, though, or it will look like a medical facility or a bar. Keep it under control and harmonize it with your general décor.

Adding Metallic Furnishings to Your Design Theme

Brushed, antiqued or distressed metal finishes complement a casual theme design while glossy metal finishes complement sophisticated or contemporary themes.

Metallics and Color

Metallics are neutral so they work with any color scheme. If you want to use the darker ones, apply a little glamor and drama. Minimize the use of metallics if you have dark or bright tones in your bedroom. Use the metallics as accents. Larger single metallic furniture will go well with a softly or neutral-colored bedroom. You can even add a few small accents in the room.

Blending Metallics with your Current Décor

Metal is divided into two groups: 1) warm metals (gold, copper, brass, and bronze), and 2) the cool metals (silver, aluminum, chrome, pewter, and tin). You can mix these two groups for a dramatic effect or opt for a single group for a balanced look. Choosing linens or bedspreads accentuated with sequins or embroidery are other choices.

If you want a new bed, choose a modern bed with a button- or crystal-tufted headboard with metallic trims or frame. Keep the modern look in your bedroom by painting your old headboard with a satin metallic paint.

Use metallic fabric or trimmed pillowcases to cheer up your bedroom.

Look for a nightstand or dresser with a metallic accent or finish. You can even paint your current nightstand or dresser with metallic color.

Set a metallic table lamp on your nightstand or a metallic floor lamp near the bed. Metallic sconces are good options providing light when reading on your bed.

A metallic sculpture placed on the top of your chest is inexpensive yet creates an impressive impact.

Hang a metallic framed mirror on the wall or above your dresser.

Use a metallic box, bowl or tray for your jewelry or hair accessories. This can serve as an accent on your dresser. Add a small touch of brightness by using metallic candleholders.

Look for artwork in burnished metallic frame. Or use a metallic frame for photos. Glossy metallic frames will give your bedroom a bit of sparkle.

Choose pendant light in chrome, bronze, copper or other burnished metals.

Have a metallic accent wall or ceiling. Wallpaper with metallic designs all through its pattern is an inexpensive way to have a metallic accent wall. Tin ceiling tiles on a wall are another option to have an accent wall. Or lay a silver rug near the bed.

Rediscover the numerous possibilities of giving your bedroom a metallic 2016 look. Harmonize it properly with your current modern bedroom furniture or change a few items. Do not exaggerate the use of metallics, though. Set a goal of bringing out the shine in your bedroom that fits your personality and that is not too blinding for the eyes. Trusting your design instincts will help you, but if you do not have it, check online modern furniture stores and see how they design a room using metallics.
