One of the biggest colour trends in 2019, both within fashion and interior design, is the use of Pastel colours. From Adam Nathaniel Furman’s Tokyo apartment to the blogger hotspot Peggy Porschen Bakery, pastel colours are popping up everywhere at the moment.
I’ve jumped on the pastel design trend in my apartment and I think you should embrace the soft tones too. Here are a few ideas on how you can make pastel shades work in your home:
Pastel shades are so easy to implement in home decoration due to the fact that they are so easy on the eye. These delicate shades have been used in interior design since the 1960s and they continue to feature in retro-themed furnishings, accessories and kitchenware today. The pastels of 2019 are loosely based on the same ideas, though their expression is lighter, fresher, and decidedly happier than their retro counterparts, making them the perfect new neutral palette.
The key to achieving a well-balanced pastel scheme in your home lies in adding these colours to your image of a neutral palette. As extensions of white, beige and grey, these muted shades can bring delicate hints of warmth, energy or serenity into an otherwise neutral room. The easiest way to achieve a calming pastel scheme is to replace grey cushions and rugs with a pastel shade. If you’re feeling brave, you can add a pastel accent chair, side table or even a corner sofa to update your living space.
The one thing I love the most about pastel colours is they welcome the use of natural elements such as houseplants and wooden finishes, which gives the look such a fresh feel.
