Avalanche in Japan kills 8, injures 40 others

March 28, 2017: An Avalanche in ski slopes in Japan has claimed lives of at least seven high school students and a teacher.

The avalanche occurred early on Monday near Nasu in Tochigi prefecture, 120km (75 miles) north of Tokyo.

The victims were part of a 70-strong group from several schools who were taking part in a three-day mountaineering expedition near the Nasu Onsen resort.

The region had received heavy snow over the past two days and avalanche warnings had been in effect, BBC reported.
