India is a country full of natural beauty, culture, and history. It's also a place where people are friendly, kind and welcoming. If you're just starting to plan your trip to India, here are a few tips from a local traveler that might help. 1. Be prepared for cultural differences. India is a very diverse country and its people are very culturally different from other countries. Some of the things that may be considered normal elsewhere will be quite different in India. Be prepared for this! For example, most people walk on the left side of the road and drive on the right side of the road. This can be confusing at first but it's very easy once you get used to it. 2. Be respectful of local customs - Dress conservatively in public areas (especially women). In most cities, it is considered inappropriate for women to wear shorts or skirts without a shirt or jacket on top (anywhere outside of tourist areas). Don't wear shorts in temples during religious festivals like Diwali, Holi or Eid Al-Fitr because this is considered disrespectful by the locals who believe that men should cover their knees when entering shrines/temples with sacred images/artwork/bags etc on display inside those places. If you want to take photos of temples and mosques, ask permission first! 3. Carry small change with you so that you don't have to pay large bills at many places throughout India including restaurants, hotels and shops (especially when shopping). It's always best not to count out large denominations because they may refuse them if they think they won't fit in their. 4. Go with a guide. The best places in India are not always the easiest to reach — and getting there requires plenty of backtracking. So if you want to see the real India, go on a guided tour.
