Restorative Dentistry The goal of restorative dentistry is to repair or replace damaged or missing teeth. Restorative dentistry refers to the integrated management of oral health problems and restoring the mouth to a functional and esthetic state. What is restorative dentistry? Restorative dentistry focuses on repairing or replacing teeth. Restorative dentistry's main goal is to improve oral health and chewing function. Restorative dentistry is performed by general dentists. Common dental restorations include crowns, bridges and implants. the types of dental restoration? Many of the procedures, such as fillings, veneers, crowns, bridges, full and partial dentures, and dental implants, are also covered by the dental speciality of restorative dentistry. Fillings When treating a cavity Dentist will remove the decayed portion of your tooth and fill it with another substance. This procedure is called a filling. There are multiple options for the material to be used in the filling, the most common of which are composite fillings and amalgam fillings. Composite fillings provide good durability for small to medium cavities, and the procedure typically involves removing less of a tooth than you would during an amalgam filling. They are also particularly well suited for treating front or highly visible teeth because of their natural look. Crowns Dental crowns are used by dentists to repair large cavities or to restore broken teeth. A crown is used to cap or completely cover a tooth being restored. All-Ceramic Crowns, as the name implies, do not contain other materials. Dental Bridges A dental bridge can be used to replace one missing tooth or a row of missing teeth. A bridge is made up of false teeth with dental crowns on either side. Your natural teeth on both sides of the gap will be altered (shaved down) by your dentist. The bridge will then be bonded to your natural teeth. The crowns are placed over your natural teeth, and the artificial teeth bridge the space between them. Dental implants Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and also provide a fixed solution to having removable partial or complete dentures. Implants provide excellent support and stability for these dental appliances. Dental implants are artificial roots and teeth (usually titanium) that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by a dentist or Periodontist a specialist of the gums and supporting bone. The teeth attached to implants are very natural looking and often enhance or restore a patient’s smile! Dentures Dentures are another traditional method of replacing teeth. Dentures restore the look and function of your smile, are custom-crafted just for you, and are easy to maintain. Today’s dentures are natural-looking, more comfortable than ever, and last for decades with proper care. If you are missing one or more teeth, you should look into dentures as a long-term solution, as well as alternatives such as dental bridges and dental implants. Inlays and onlays When the damage is not severe enough to warrant the use of a crown, inlays and onlays can be used to repair chips and cracks in teeth. inlays and onlays are tooth-colored, they are often viewed as a more natural restoration option than metal fillings. Porcelain inlays are used to treat decay or damage within the cusps of a tooth. Porcelain onlays are used to treat decay or damage that extends beyond the top projection of a tooth or teeth. Since inlays are used to repair damage within the tooth, they are often used as replacements for old or damaged metal fillings.
