Nature is beautiful, isn’t it? In the earlier times, things were so much easier, you could feel and process everything. Ummm, that’s what natural birthing is also like! Natural Birthing is the sort of birthing that doesn’t require any kind of medication — now this does not mean that going for a C-section is wrong or inferior! We at Blue Shelf want to help you know more about this wonderful experience! Now things are very different when it comes to natural birthing, compared to a C-section. This varies in terms of everything, how you are on a day-to-day basis, and how comfortable you are in your own skin. More importantly, a lot of mothers want to give birth at home so this way they can get closer to their baby and form a more special bond. But of course, mothers want to know what the real experience is like without any kind of medication. They want to know the many natural changes that their body will go through without any medicine. Before you read further, make sure that you are certain about a few things, take a look – Why an unmedicated birth? — Different people have different reasons as to why they want to have a natural birth. Therefore you must be sure of why you want to opt for an unmedicated birth. Childbirth Techniques and Methods — Now that you have opted for a natural birth, familiarize yourself with techniques that will help you, like Lamaze and the Bradley method. What is your Natural Birth plan? — Make sure that you plan things accordingly! Remember to be in regular touch with your health care provider, indulge yourself in yoga and find time to be more relaxed. Exercising and its importance — For childbirth, it is important and essential that you have energy and stamina (which you will definitely need during delivery!). Keep your hips flexible, you should be able to squat properly and as mentioned before prenatal yoga can work wonders! Understanding more about Natural Birth – Natural Birth is all about moving along the wonderful experience of pregnancy naturally. Here are some of the basic pointers of natural birthing – Dealing with the pregnancy pain and delivery without any medications. Even pain relievers such as epidurals are included. The woman (the mother to be) will lead the labour and delivery process by herself according to her convenience. No medical intervention is involved in any way in the natural birthing process. Natural Birthing helps you take control of everything as per how you want. Often pain relievers and medicines can slow down the pregnancy process and cause additional pain to you — this also includes getting nauseous (morning sickness) Mothers opt for Natural Birthing to feel more connected to their children. Where it all happens – Now sometimes being in a hospital can take out a lot of energy from you. The entire vibe of the hospital room can also bring you down. In a nutshell, the hospital room is not really your comfort zone. When it comes to natural birthing, women tend to do it in natural birthing centers where they can freely move and stay in positions as per their convenience. More importantly, there are registered nurses present in the birthing centers that will also volunteer to help as your labour assistants. Comfort also includes resting, sitting in a tub or jacuzzi, massages and also hydrotherapy. It is also important that the woman is hydrated. To add to the process, when there is comfort available to you, you automatically have a positive feeling about the entire process, which is quite contradictory in most cases, when it comes to a C-section birth. Natural Births also take place in hospitals as of recent times. There are birth centers in the hospitals along with doulas or labour assistants who can assist you whenever needed. Since it is a natural process, there is no medication involved but is always available whenever needed. For low-risk births, the hospitals work towards, helping with providing a more homely setting at the center so you feel comfortable and in your element. During the natural birthing process, only the immediate family is allowed to be a part of the process. After delivery, the baby also stays with the mother at the center for some time. This is when the mother heals and recovers. This stay also helps in forming a bond between the child and the mother. How it all happens – For a natural birth where no medicine is involved, dont you want to be as comfortable as possible? Some of the best techniques to try in this period to lessen the pain are Lamaze (originated in the US and now practised all over the world) and the Bradley method as well. To help you understand both the processes in a brief manner, The Lamaze Technique is all about taking things as they are and telling you that hey! What you’re doing is beautiful and absolutely alright. It also tells you that it’s not wrong to go for medicines if you desperately need them. Then comes The Bradley Method which focuses on bringing a birthing coach who can support and help you. Now the technique is about not using medication at all unless it is essential. This technique emphasizes nutrition, exercise and being in good health. There are also techniques like deep breathing that will help you cope with labour naturally. Some of the other ways that you can opt to deal with labour include – Resting in a tub or jacuzzi Yoga Meditating Listening to peaceful music and mantras Walking Sleeping Some Common Questions about Natural Birthing – What does the process feel like? It depends on how you take care of yourself which is why it is important that you get a lot of rest in this period. How long is the process? Again, the answer varies depending on how your body reacts to the labour. Your delivery could be over in a matter of a few hours or you could go on for about a day and still not deliver. What are the risk and precautions? Now during your pregnancy, you will have to take care of your body and nurture it. Otherwise, you might face a number of issues during your delivery.
