5 Jdm Cars That We Would Import In A Speed Blog

As a massive fan of the Japanese Domestic Market (or JDM) Tuner and Touring car culture, I have always loved seeing what amazing madness they were coming up with. Japan is one of the most exciting places in the world for automotive design. Indeed, their style might not appeal to everyone - but that's just the culture. For some reason, Japan loves to take original designs and take them over the top. But we love it... or at least I do! The Japanese car market is unique, where almost every company has a model specifically for their home market. These unique versions are usually outrageous in one way or another--even more so than their counterparts in Europe or North America. Of course, these unique models rarely make it to the U.S...Or do they? Many of the JDM tuner cars that we see in modified form here in the U.S. have made their first appearance as limited Japan-only editions, released only for a brief period before being replaced by the next model year. But what if you could import them? What would they be worth on U.S. soil? Quite a lot, I'd bet... These cars are rarely offered for sale outside of their home country, so we have to imagine just how awesome it would be if one of these beasts showed up at your local Cars & Coffee one morning. So I did a little digging to bring you the five JDM cars that I would fast forward time to import! 1) Honda Goddess/Wakisaka NSX-R How can you not love this thing? For decades, the Japanese have known that adding huge air intakes and wings automatically makes a car go faster. The Wakisaka NSX-R was a limited edition model that was only available to the Japanese nameplate had been used by Nissan for nearly fifty years to designate various vehicles market in 2003. Honda Motor Company's chief automobile designer, Shigeru Uehara—who worked on cars such as the S2000, Integra Type R, and most famously, the legendary NSX. 2) Honda Beat/S2000 CR Concept One of the most awaited cars to ever come out of Japan was a little car called the Honda Beat (also known as the "Chi" and named Honda Jazz overseas). This is what would happen if you bought an S2000 and shrunk it down into a tiny, three-door pocket rocket. The Beat was a limited model with a brief production run and made most of its appearances at the numerous car shows that Honda held throughout Japan. 3) Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) The Skyline GT-R (known as the 'GT-X' in Australia) was so popular; there is a dedicated website for all of the different versions. The skylines have been in production since 1969. Many people love this model because it is an affordable way to own a large 'supercar.' If you haven't heard of one of the most famous JDM Tuned Skylines, it was a Japanese car magazine that took a stock R33 and made about 400 more horsepower out of it. 4) Toyota Soarer HV-SS/HV-X The Toyota SOARER (officially called the "Celsior" outside of Japan) is easily one of the most recognizable JDM cars ever made. This car was like a minivan, but with supercar styling and an insane amount of comfort features! And with its comprehensive body kit-- the looks are pretty amazing too. 5) Nissan R390 GT1 Officially, this car doesn't exist in Japan... but I have seen several on the street (one that I followed for a long time). The R390 GT-1 was the first competition car ever built by Nissan. Because of its unbelievably awesome looks, hard to deny that it is one of the most excellent cars ever made. The Calsior seemed to be based on an existing model from the early 90s--but the GT-1 was made from the ground up and was designed to take on the world's most famous endurance races. Unfortunately, despite making it into production (after a very long gestation period), Nissan pulled out of the racing game due to poor sales--which means there will never be an official Nissan Skyline GT-R race car anymore. 6) Hachiroku The "Hachi" is a little-known Japanese car that was sold in Japan alone. It's the same as a Datsun 240Z, but much more rare--and built without the typical Nissan badge on the hood (instead of replaced by a large "HACHIRO"). The most memorable thing about this car is that it's immortalized in a gashapon toy collection, where you press down on the Hachi-Roku, and it plays music from the anime "Initial D."
