“Don’t blame celebs who chose not to speak up” — Iyabo Ojo cries out over 18 million government ensued tax bill

Famous Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has recently taken to Instagram to vent her frustration over the expensive amount of money that the Lagos state government is demanding from her in taxes. This isn’t the first time she has aired her concerns about this issue.

Back in June, Iyabo Ojo first raised concerns about the huge tax bill she received. She openly posted her financial predicament and pleaded that she couldn’t afford to pay the hefty sum. This drew sympathy from her followers and the general public. Fast forward a few months, and she is back on Instagram with more disclosure.

In her recent Instagram update, Iyabo Ojo revealed that the tax authorities had asked her to pay a staggering 18 million Naira sum. What makes this situation even more difficult for her is that she is required to pay this amount in three months. This is a bulky financial burden for anyone, even a celebrity like Iyabo, who has other financial responsibilities to manage.

Iyabo Ojo’s financial concerns do not stop at the tax bill. She mentioned in her update that she also has to handle her business-related expenses, mortgage payments, and loan repayments. Additionally, she plays a crucial role as the primary breadwinner in her family, supporting over 30 people. This paints a complex financial picture where the pressure to meet various financial obligations is intense.

The actress also highlighted the ever-increasing costs of living in Nigeria, with the soaring prices of essential commodities like fuel and food. She pointed out that it’s becoming increasingly challenging for her to manage her finances effectively.

One of the most striking claims in Iyabo Ojo’s update is her suggestion that her outspokenness during the election period may have played a role in the tax authorities’ demands. She insinuated that her support for a political party that didn’t win might have resulted in her facing consequences. This is a serious allegation that hints at potential political influence over tax-related matters.

Iyabo Ojo ended her lengthy Instagram post by advising people not to blame celebrities who choose not to speak up or lend their voices to political matters. She emphasized that there are significant consequences for being outspoken, suggesting that her current tax predicament might be a direct result of her political affiliations.

“I’m too outspoken, too confrontational, too blunt, they say……. my opinion must not be heard, unless it aligns with theirs, i must stay silent or get crippled, the witch hurt in eating deep into my soul but…… damn, the hate screams louder. i fought for a girl child who was sexually molested, i was labelled bad & evil bcos one of my own (Yoruba) (senior colleague) was the accused, again i chose to follow my heart & support LP & the hate & resentment grew even worse & i was labeled an (Omo Ale Yoruba) & now i must pay a compulsory best of judgment based on my celebrity status by the Lirs of over 18m personal income tax…. so now i have paid from 2014-2019….. but must pay the remaining of almost 18m for 2020-2022 b4 the end of Nov or go to court…. every effort on my part to reduce it was rejected, even when i had to forcefully accept it, my payment plan has also been rejected, i even had to write an apology letter, yet they refuse to give me an easy payment plan, now tell me if this is not hurting, and I’m suppose to stay silent

Since 2020, which was the Covid 19 lockdown season, who really made money, tell me? if i had made so much i won’t have bought my house on mortgage, since 2020 my business has been going through ups and downs, yet i still constantly pay all my business tax, mortgage tax, loan tax etc…..

I’m the breadwinner, over 30 people depending on me, dollar raising almost everday, fuel high, diesel high, everything expensive, but still i was given 3 months to pay over 18m, how?????

The money we make, the bills are so overwhelming even to save is a problem…

Which kind of business will you people have me do to make a profit of 18m to pay you this period… Why is my payment plan being denied, Why? Guy’s, please don’t blame celebrities who chose not to speak up or lend their voice, Doing so comes with a lot of consequences….

in the midst of my lamentation, let me appreciate my beautiful outfit @medlinboss, you killed it
