No Trucking Way

It’s the end of January and the weather is lovely and sunny, but it’s bitterly cold. So much so my fingers are frozen. It didn’t help having to sieve my compost this morning, but it gets me out and about and a little exercise is needed to help my Ribs heal.

Where I’m going to have a problem in the short term is refilling my tubs ready to plant out my flowers, herbs and tomatoes. The tubs are big and Heavy and I can’t move them with the current state of my ribs, so it looks like I’m going to need a small barrow or trolley/hand truck to move the pots. I have to admit that ribs aside, I was having trouble moving my pots from one end of the garden to the other. Okay, so I’m 65 tomorrow but I never expected to have a problem moving heavy objects this soon in my retirement. It comes as a bit of a shock when you realise you can’t do what you’ve always taken for granted, i.e., moving a heavy object. It’s not really age that’s the problem, it’s just that my back seems not to be as bendy as it used to be and it aches a lot in the cold winter months.

Never mind, I keep telling myself, because the summer is on the way. The cherry trees are in bud and we’ll soon have blossom on the trees, and that will mean a lot warmer weather and that will mean less aching muscles. So until then, I’ll have to keep on Trucking.
