Google Play Services and Gboard beta apps now available on the Play Store

Rejoice! Google is today opening two more of its applications, namely Google Play Services and Gboard, for beta testing by the massive Android community. If you are one of those individuals who loves to instantly test out and experience new cutting-edge features, then the beta tester community is meant just for you.

Being a part of this community does come with its benefits. You no longer have to wait in queues to receive the latest features for your favorite applications. And you can also gain access to exclusive new features and improvements before the general populous. You can then provide the developer with feedback and help in improvement of said features over time. But, do remember these are test builds and may contain some bugs as well.

Firstly, the tech giant is making the beta of one of the most important Android apps available to you. Google Play Services is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play. It provides core functionality like authentication, synchronized contacts, access to location-based services as well. Thus, you will be the first to receive major new features coming to Android. The beta app bumps the version from v10.2 to v10.5.

Beta registrations for Gboard, formerly known as Google Keyboard have also been made available. The said app is the default keyboard for your Android smartphone, which has been bumped from v6.0 to beta v6.1. And this brings along a completely redesigned custom theme picker along with inbuilt support for Google Translations.

Thus, if you’re interested in catching up with the latest features for either Gboard or Google Play services, then you can navigate to the respective app pages in the Play Store and scroll down to the bottom. Once there, you’ll see a beta tester card asking you to sign up for the test the application. You can also follow these links — Gboard tester and Google Play Services tester — to register for downloading the beta applications.
