Global Summit in Brazzaville: Leaders convene to protect tropical forests and combat climate change

The global summit in Brazzaville brought together leaders from the Amazon, Congo, and Borneo-Mekong basins to Protect Tropical Forests and combat climate change. The basins represent 80% of the world's forest cover and three-quarters of its biodiversity. Over 3,000 participants, including government representatives, NGOs, scientists, and indigenous populations, attended the event. The primary objectives of the summit were to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen collaboration between the basins. President Félix Tshisekedi expressed concern about the destruction of ecosystems by Rwanda in the Virunga Park. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and French President Emmanuel Macron participated via video conference.
