Europe’s First-Ever Private Rocket Blasts Off to Space Thanks to Spanish Company PLD

Spanish private astronautics company PLD has successfully tested its Miura-1 reusable rocket, becoming the 10th country with direct access to space. The rocket flew 28.6 miles into suborbital space for 306 seconds, proving its capability for space flight. The Miura is designed to be a lighter and cheaper option for governments and companies to launch satellites. The success comes at a time when other European space launching vehicles, such as Ariane 5 and Russian Soyuz, are unavailable or facing delays, making Spain the leader in economic space flight in Europe. PLD plans to launch its finished product, Miura-5, in 2025.
