Discovery of Electric Blue Tarantula Stuns Scientists Who Auction Naming Rights for Charity

Scientists have discovered a new species of tarantula with electric blue hair in a Thailand mangrove forest. The team decided to auction off the rights to name the spider in order to raise money and awareness for the Lahu indigenous group, to which popular Thai YouTube explorer JoCho Sippawat belongs. The spider, named Chilobrachys natanicharum, has a unique blue coloration due to the presence of metallic-blue and violet hairs. The reason for the blue coloration is still unknown, as tarantulas typically rely on camouflage and hiding. The Electric Blue Tarantula is likely one of the rarest of its kind due to the conservation status of southern Thailand's mangroves.
