Concrete Made 30% Stronger by Adding Waste Coffee Grounds–Cutting Emissions and Mining in the Process

Engineers at RMIT University in Australia have developed a technique to make concrete 30% stronger by Adding Waste Coffee grounds. The grounds are turned into biochar using a low-energy process, reducing waste going to landfills. Globally, 11 million tons of spent coffee is generated each year, which emits large amounts of greenhouse gases when disposed of. Additionally, the construction industry requires 50 billion tons of natural sand annually, which can be partially replaced by coffee biochar. The research team aims to transform organic waste into a valuable resource and ensure sustainability in the construction industry.
