Hindus in Indonesia throw ritual offerings to gods into active volcano

Indonesia's Tengger tribe has resumed its annual tradition of throwing ritual offerings, including goats, chickens, and vegetables, into the Active Volcano Mount Bromo in eastern Java to please their gods and bring luck to their people. The Yadnya Kasada festival was limited to worshippers last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but authorities allowed tourists to the site this year. The event has its roots in 15th-century folklore from the Majapahit kingdom, and legend has it that sacrificing the youngest child of a couple would guarantee the prosperity of the Tengger people.
