WhatsApp Read Later and Advanced Wallpaper Features are Now in Testing — What they are and How they will Work

WhatsApp is on a roll. After adding payments, a new storage manager, disappearing messages, and a shopping button to the app, the company is integrating the ‘read later’ and ‘advanced wallpaper’ features to the app. The feature is currently under testing and will be available to all the users soon. Here’s how they’ll work.

WABetaInfo, a popular website dedicated to WhatsApp updates, reports that the chatting app has currently rolled out this feature to the Android Beta program. The screenshots above are from one of the Beta members, which show that the users can now choose from 32 new Bright Wallpapers, 29 new Dark Wallpapers, custom wallpaper, and Solid Colors. The company has also updated the UI of the wallpaper menu.

Users, from a future update, will also be able to apply different wallpapers to individual chats. Moreover, if you choose to apply solid color as wallpaper, you’ll be able to select doodle as an overlay. The feature is expected to be rolled out very soon.

Read Later

WhatsApp has been known to be working on a ‘Vacation Mode’ feature for some time now. With Vacation Mode turned on, any new message coming to the archived chat will keep the chat in the archived section only.

However, the report now says WhatsApp is now considering to replace Vacation Mode with Read Later feature. With more and more people using WhatsApp for official chats, the company has now decided to re-do the archived section.

Read Later will now act as the new archived section, in which a new message coming from any chat in the archived section will straight go Read Later without any notification. Users will be able to disable the Vacation Mode implemented with “Read Later” in the “Read Later Settings.” This feature is still in the development phase.
