Margot Robbie Explains Jared Leto And Joker’s Absence From Birds Of Sorry

Since “Suicide Squad” ended with Jared Leto’s Joker busting out of jail his friend Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), fans could have predicted that the pair would be seen together in upcoming DC films. There were even reports that Warner Bros. was in “late talks” to make a spin-off of Joker and Harley in 2017.

But Cathy Yan’s next film, “Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn),” has broken up the couple, and the Clown Prince of Crime is found nowhere. The story focuses instead on Harley’s new alliance with a group of female superheroes, including Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth, Huntress, Renee Montoya, Rosie Perez, and Cassandra Cain, Ella Jay Basco.

Margot Robbie

Robbie said she was playing a Harley “girl squad” game during the “Suicide Squad” media event last week, and that Leto’s absence was intentional.

Robbie was also a film producer through her label, LuckyChap Entertainment.

“Birds of Prey” brought a new villain with him from the picture — Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask, alias Gotham crime lord Roman Sionis, who attacks every leading woman violently.

“Each of them has such a personal reason why they do not like him and why he doesn’t,” Christina Hodson, screenwriter, who was also present at the press event, said.

Jared Leto’s Joker

Although some DC fans would like to see Jared Leto’s tattooed return to the big screen, Margot Robbie and his company probably did not try to push him into Birds of Prey for the best. Suicide Squad struggled because so many of his scenes ended up on the floor of the cutting room. He was dominated by a tertiary presence in the film and felt out of place. While Todd Phillips ‘ joker might have complicated things a little, Jared Leto previously expressed interest in returning to this role.

However, Jared Leto has gone on to play a vampire at “Morbius,” a Spider-Man-spreading occurrence this summer, from the DC Extended Universe to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thanks to Todd Philip’s “Joker” a new iteration of The Joker has made headlines for the character. The film received 11 Oscar nominations, among which Joaquin Phoenix’s best picture and best performance.

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will land on February 7.
